10 Ways to Devour Avocados

I LOVE AVOCADOS!  They should be their own food group. Their versatility.  They're delectable.  Fresh, raw, fried, or combined in a dish.  It doesn't matter.  They're simply delicious.  So really, why not list the best ways to eat, enjoy, and share avocados with your friends.  With a little help from my friends over at Pinterest, I'm sharing my favorites ways to enjoy an avocado!

1. Guacamole

Well, duh.  The original remains simply the best.  Whether you enjoy traditional guac made with just onion, garlic, tomatoes, and a dash of salt - OR- fancy guac featuring mangos (like in this recipe from Caroline).  Guac can be enjoyed atop most anything!

2. Simply Marinated in Soy Sauce

Short for time and in need of a snack?

The easiest way to enjoy an avocado (other than plain) is with a bit of soy sauce.  Since it's essentially liquid salt (don't think too hard about that), soy enhances the flavor of this delectable vegetable.   It can also be topped with black pepper, such as done by Vegetarian and Cooking.

3. Avocado Pesto

From the blog, Ambitious Kitchen, comes this recipe for an oil free avocado pesto.  Use it on pasta, flatbreads, grilled cheese, and so much more.

4. Avocado Citrus Dressing

Trader Joe's has the most delicious salad to-go that features an Avocado Citrus salad dressing, atop a bed of spinach, kale, edamame, goat cheese, and walnuts.  If I could just recreate this dressing, then I would be sooooooooooo skinny.  Or maybe at least love a salad a bit more often?  One similar version is offered here at Dishin & Dishes.

5. Fancy Grilled Cheese

Now use your imagination here.  One wine-heavy night, we were making "grilled cheese" that got a bit crafty.  A person favorite - fresh mozzarella, spinach, sundried tomatoes, basil pesto, and of course, avocados!   There's no official recipe for this one, so use your imagination and get creative.

6.  Avocado Stuffed with Bacon and Eggs

So, self-proclaimed.  I am not an egg person, which makes breakfast a fairly difficult task.  But, disguise them in avocados, plus bacon, and top with cheese - and you have yourself a winner!  Thanks to  this recipe from Lil Luna, you can enjoy "all things good."

7. Avocado & Tomato Bruschetta

Yummy Mummy Kitchen has the most amazing recipe for Avocado Bruschetta.  Follow the link here.  I adore the attention to detail, like rubbing the bread with olive oil and garlic clove prior to placing  the toppings on.  Don't forget to pronounce it correctly.  (BRU-SKE-TAH).

8. Sweet Potato Fries with Garlic Avocado Aioli

This recipe from Stay Snatched features a link both for the sweet potato fires (so easy and so good) plus the garlic avocado aioli (insert fancy dipping sauce lingo).  Both are super easy to make and super healthy.   So in the words of this recipe's writer, Brandi, (also from KC - woot woot), "Treat Yourself."

9. Avocado Fries with Chipotle Dipping Sauce

It's not fried, but baked in panko.  Yet still absolutely delicious.  Do you remember the Great Food Truck Race?  FIED AVO.  Almost.  This recipe from "Gimme Delicious Food" sums it u perfectly.

10. Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles

I'll be honest, I haven't been brave enough to try this one myself yet.  But writing out this list of reasons has made me more apt to venture out in my consumption of avocados.  This recipe from Paleo Hacks is now on my list of must-make-soon.

YUM YUM YUM.  Now that your mouth is watering, get out there and enjoy some avocados.
